Uber Partners with the IRCTC. To Offer Portal based cab Bookings for Passengers

Mobile App based cab service Uber has made its biggest expansion move in India by partnering with the Indian Railways. IRCTC, which is India’s largest e-commerce portal offering online bookings to more than 23 million passengers on more than 12,000 daily trains will soon offer cab bookings for passengers on the portal itself.

This move is expectedto really make things very convenient for passengers who are constantly on the move and is also looking to bring in revenues upwards of INR 150 crore annually to the Indian Railways.

Experts term this as a counter-move by Uber towards its Indian Competitor Ola, which offers last mile connectivity to the passengers of the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar line of the Mumbai Metro. Ola has created designated “Ola Zones” near the metro stations on these lines and is looking to expand the same on a Pan India Zone very soon.

While the local taxi and auto unions have opposed both these moves saying it will hamper their business, it can still be safely said that the Indian Consumer is spoilt for choices.
