Traveling till the very last mile with Uber

A party with friends over drinks?Or just heading back home late from a meeting? Uber has surely become the first choice for many people today, even if they own a car! Uber definitely has gone on to become the cab service you swear by.  Just recently, Uber has announced an unprecedented partnership with Cleartrip that is bound to make booking an Uber cab easier for the travelers from the Cleartrip app itself.

Although this is a one of kind partnership, Uber has also associated itself with brands like Yatra, Skyscanner and Ixigo. The booking procedure is technologically integrated into these apps. Uber could provide the objective of different kinds of API integrations, and the idea behind it. Through these, the larger aim is to provide ‘holistic travel experiences’ for commuters.

Mobile App based cab service Uber has made its biggest expansion move in India by collaborating with the Indian Railways. IRCTC, which is India’s largest e-commerce portal offering online bookings to more than 23 million passengers on more than 12,000 daily trains will soon offer cab bookings for passengers on the portal itself.

The move is expected to make things rather convenient for passengers who are constantly on the move and are looking to bring in revenues upwards of INR 150 crore annually to the Indian Railways.

We got in touch with Prabhjeet Singh, General Manager, North, Uber India, who said, “Uber, with its hyper-local product offerings, has become a preferred choice of transportation for travelers around the world, including business travelers. By eliminating local language barriers, saving users the hassle of figuring out local transportation systems, and providing simple and transparent payment options, Uber has made it easier for travelers to explore new destinations. Our product innovations like ‘Schedule a Ride’ that allow travelers to book a ride up to 30 days in advance and in-app integrations with online travel agencies, tie-ups with various airports, etc., has led to a phenomenal increase in the app usage amongst Indian riders traveling abroad and global riders visiting India.”

Uber also recently associated with MIAL and 20 other large airports across the country. Moreover, they also made a partnership with key metro stations along with western railways stations in metropolitan areas of India. This was executed keeping in mind the larger objective of ‘last mile connectivity’ for commuters and travelers. Last mile connectivity essentially means that a traveler would not have to worry about his commute, and should be able to travel seamlessly from point A to point B in the most affordable and convenient manner.

Prabjeet added, “As we continue offering riders from around the world the freedom of mobility, it is heartening to see how Uber has emerged as a cultural phenomenon that evokes the same feeling of familiarity amongst people across nationalities with the cushion of comfort, reliability and convenience”

Overall, Uber is all about ‘uber-convenience’, earning the service hero status in the hot emerging category of ‘convenience tech’ – technology that buys you time and saves you effort.
